21 से 31 जुलाई, 2024 तक नई दिल्ली में आयोजित विश्व धरोहर समिति की बैठक में नए स्थल नामांकन, संरक्षण रिपोर्ट की स्थिति और विश्व धरोहर निधि के उपयोग पर चर्चा की जाएगी। इस कार्यक्रम में 150 से अधिक देशों के 2000 से अधिक प्रतिनिधि भाग ले रहे हैं, साथ ही विश्व धरोहर युवा पेशेवरों के मंच और विश्व धरोहर स्थल प्रबंधकों के मंच भी शामिल हैं।

Applauding the nomination of North East India’s historic Maidam to UNESCO’s World Heritage List, Modi celebrated this as India’s 43rd World Heritage Site and the first from the Northeast region. He expressed optimism that Maidam’s unique cultural significance would gain global recognition.

Reflecting on India’s rich heritage, Modi noted, “India is so ancient that every point of time in the present moment is a reflection of its glorious past.” He highlighted New Delhi’s historical significance and showcased examples like the 2000-year-old rust-resistant Iron Pillar, illustrating India’s ancient metallurgical prowess.

“India’s heritage is not merely history, but also science,” the Prime Minister stated, citing engineering marvels such as the 8th-century Kedarnath temple and the Brihadeeswara Temple. He also mentioned the advanced urban planning of ancient sites like Dholavira and Lothal in Gujarat.

Background of the session

The World Heritage Committee meeting, held from July 21 to 31, 2024, in New Delhi, will discuss new site nominations, State of Conservation reports, and the utilization of World Heritage Funds. Over 2000 delegates from more than 150 countries are attending the event, along with the World Heritage Young Professionals’ Forum and World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum.

Exhibitions showcasing India’s culture, including retrieved artifacts and immersive AR & VR experiences of heritage sites, are set up at Bharat Mandapam, highlighting India’s rich cultural legacy and modern advancements.
